Yaoi vs Bara: What's the BIG Difference?

We'll talk about what the major differences are between yaoi and bara, some of the different tropes, how they're similar, and how they're different! The Animation Process and Cel Collecting - The Yaoi Edition
I have been a yaoi fan since 1997 and a Cel Collector since 2002!  I wanted to combine these lovely things into a technical panel with some examples from shows that have a Shonen-ai slant!

I will go through the animation process quickly first and then use examples from the shows I collect: Saiyuki (Sanzo/Goku & Hakkai/Gojyo), Loveless (Soubi/Ritsuka), Cardcaptor Sakura (Yuki/Yue/Toya)... And more!!

I also have a couple door prizes to raffle off to
Panel attendees!

50 Shades of NO! Getting BDSM Right in Yaoi

Despite the book sales and box office the BDSM in 50 Shades and in a lot of yaoi manga and anime is not right. Fantasy, fans say. While that is true, these are the most imitated actions in fiction. Most who end up in the lifestyle came from fans of the fiction. Learn how to get it right and make it hot to read or practice from a real life Dominatrix author. We're looking for demo volunteers!

The Female Gaze

What is the female gaze? The male gaze gives us entertainment from a man’s point of view, with men as the heroes and protagonists and women relegated to supporting roles and sexy-girl characters.  Yaoi is an exception—stories made by women for the female gaze. But the female gaze isn’t just about women regarding men as sex objects as they do us; it’s about seeing ourselves as heroes.  This moderated open discussion will be a safe space to talk about the female gaze in the context of what we as women would love to see in manga and comic books, movies and TV. As readers and consumers of entertainment, and as creators of entertainment, we have choices. Our dollars speak at the box office. If women controlled Hollywood, what kind of movies would we see on the big screen?

Yaoi Cash Cab

In this offbeat game show, players picked up in the Yaoi Cash Cab have to answer yaoi trivia questions with mounting point values before they reach their destination.  If a player answers incorrectly, he is kicked out without any prizes. There are two opportunities to ask the audience for help. Once the player reaches his destination, he can leave the cab with his winnings, or risk them on a more difficult question. A correct answer doubles his winnings; an incorrect answer means he leaves the cab with no prizes at all.

Shipping war stories
We have all had them.  OTPs so clearly canon that it would actually be canon if one of the characters in it were female.  (Stoney shippers know what I'm talking about.)  Things have improved in recent years but the resistance is still out there.  So please come to this panel and share your shipping war stories, what sort of things you consider evidence of a pairing and what it will look like when slash is truly less of a taboo in our favorite genres.

Writing M/M Romance
Writing M/M romance is more than just switching pronouns and knowing the difference between an American and a European cut suit. Two men bring with them different conflicts and different complications than a man and a woman, which results in a completely different approach to the time honored tropes of romance--and the creation of some unique tropes of our own.  This panel takes a look at plot devices and character types such as--

*  Boyslut and the prude vs. manwhore and the virgin
*  "It's forbidden!"
*  GFY or OFY
*  Bisexuality as "The Big Misunderstanding"
*  The Perils of Paul-- why gay romance means the end of the TSTL heroine as well as never having a TSTL hero in the first place
* Us against the world
* Tropes after marriage equality
*  Family ties
* And BDSM (and why not all M/M IS BDSM)
